Exploring Your Values

This section contains a library of Values.

Summary

The library below offers artists a variety of different perspectives on a range of values against which to evaluate and judge their work.

Exploring Values in your Art

The values set out in this library can be used to inspire your art. Or they can be used to examine aspects within a work of art that may influence the way those values are portrayed. They should be used when describing the work to others, or perhaps in its title. The greatest challenge of morality is balancing the competing demands of the range of values that are relevant to the context.

How does your audience need to prioritise competing values within the specific world of your artwork? Where is the harmony within your work, where is the conflict, what are the moral dilemmas, what are your core messages?

The Values Library

The library provides links to ideas or articles to reflect on a number of values. There are many other values. Since most values can be seen through the lens of other values, this library also offers scope for reflection on the additional positive human values not listed below.
